Penile Itch: What Can Cause It?

Penile itch is that itch you feel around your penis and can have a number of different causes. Penile itch is the irritating sensation you felt accompanied by persistent need to scratch. It may be a symptom of an underlying infection which are commonly Sexually Transmitted Diseases. It may also be from allergies, and irritation from other causes.

Sexually transmitted infections that can cause penile itch include;
  • Chlamydia
  • Genital warts
  • Gonorrhea
  • Herpes
  • Pubic lice
  • Trichomonas vaginalis
Others are; Excess moisture, skin friction, tight or abrasive undergarments
Symptoms of Penile Itch may include any of the following;
  • Pain on urination
  • Discharge or pus
  • Lump or sore
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Redness, warmth or swelling
  • Testicular pain

Complications occur when expert management are not sought. It may be due to a serious disease condition, failure to seek treatment can be dangerous. Its complications are;
  • Infertility
  • Penile or scrotal scratch
  • Narrowing of the penile meatus(penis opening)
  • Spread of infection
  • Transmission to sexual partner
There are some tips on preventing the itch or reducing it to the bearest minimum
1. Maintaining personal hygiene
2. Avoid moisture in the penile area. Bacteria or germs grow faster in moistured area
3. Use less strong bathing soap
4. Stay away from sexual intercourse to prevent transmitting to your partner
